This was taken in Souq Waqif in Doha. Wheelbarrows are widely used in the Soug to transport bags of spices. It was lunchtime when this photo opportunity came along; couldn’t resist it!

Taken from The Pearl Qatar, this is a view of the Intercontinental Hotel and a new, as yet unnamed, hotel / apartment complex.
Dentist tomorrow. I hate dentists. I especially hate being fleeced for double what it costs at a private clinic in the UK. Hope it doesn’t hurt too much.
A view of The Pearl Qatar at night. Quite like this photo!
From last year’s trip to Duba, this FlyDubai 737 was photographed from within the Middle East Business Aviation arena. More pictures at http://www.flickr.com/photos/sjbyles/sets/72157625571255305/
A few years ago, aero-engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce ran an advertising campaign entilted “The Best Reason For Choosing A Window Seat”. It pictured the view out of an aircraft window with an engine bearing the famous RR Logo. Here’s one good reason for not choosing a window-seat in an Airbus A330. In case your wondering, I was in an aisle-seat. Oh, and it was a GE powered beast as well.
A recent trip to Zurich gave me the change to try out my new camera. Here’s a picture. For more please go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/sjbyles/sets/72157625819615143/
The local radio station continues to annoy and surprise. Driving home this evening we had a complete run through of Boney M’s greatest hits. No breaks, no talking, just continual Boney M. Maybe the DJ had gone to deliver an Indian baby and there were complications. Then, tonight they were playing a song by The Hold Steady. Am surprised anyone has heard of them in Doha. And yes , I remembered some of the words to Rasputin. Apparently he was a cat that was really gone (whatever that means). Oh, and he loved the Russian Queen. Bit of a lad by the sound of it.
We went to see Rafael Nadal play tennis on Monday. It was a great evening out. It cost about £2 and we had a really good seat. It was a doubles match and contary to my previous views on doubles it was really exciting. Managed to take some good pictures too.
It’s quite strange really: most things are very expensive here but sporting events such as this and the upcoming Asian Cup football are really cheap. Imagine going to Wimbledon for 2 quid! We saw the ladies WTF final here in Doha last year and that was similary priced. So, it’s not just petrol that is cheap here (although I can’t think of much elses that is). Getting back to the tennis itself. It was amazing how easy they made it look. I guess that’s part of being so good. Also the serves didn’t look to be that fast but of course they were. Every now and again there would be a mishit on a return and the ball would go flying out of the court. So all in all an excellent way to spend a few hours.
